Used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years, Citrus x sinensis bark has often been added to whole herbal formulations, while also being used on its own. Dried orange peel has a concentrated orange flavor and is delicious in infusions, culinary dishes and as an extract. Originally from China, the sweet orange is now grown in warm climates around the world.
The peels of any member of the sweet orange family have been used in traditional Chinese medicine at least since the writing of the Classic of the Divine Husbandman of the Materia Medica, written in the second century BC. What is little known is that there are many more enzymes, flavonoids and phytonutrients in the orange peel than in the fruit. The skin is where all the essential components accumulate and they can be found in three main sections of the skin; flavedo, albedo and oil bags.
The orange and its peel is a superfood very rich in vitamin C but also in magnesium, nutrients essential for the proper functioning of the body. Orange peel is a powerful antioxidant that contains flavonoids which help slow down cell aging. Very rich in fiber and pectins, a form of carbohydrate that is only found in certain plants, orange peel is a superfood that allows better assimilation of carbohydrates and also helps to better regulate intestinal transit. . Orange peel also has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties which allow this superfood to relieve skin irritation.
Infusion 10 min. at the rate of 1 tsp. coffee per cup of simmering water. Cover. Filter.
Drink 2 to 3 cups per day, including 1 in the evening before bed.
